Using an Excel spreadsheet to calculate the FFT
In lecture we treat the fast Fourier transform (FFT). In practice the FFT is used for almost all calculations of the Fourier transform because of its numerical efficiency. However, from a conceptual point of view it is a Fourier transform just like the analytical ones we can derive for some specific functional forms. The following segment is intended to give you some pointers for the laboratory that you will conduct using the above instructions.
Specific examples of FFT in Excel
The following segment gives you a pictorial representation of the examples that are most commonly used in the FFT. These will be useful for performing and understanding the laboratory experiment.
