The general case for Cp - Cv

For an ideal gas we have derived a relation between Cp and Cv. Based on the difference between the definition of enthalpy and internal energy we have, Cp - Cv = R. In order to extend this relation to the general case of solids, liquids and non-ideal gases we need to use the machinery of Maxwell's relations, the thermodynamic equation of state and the definition of isothermal compressibility and the expansion coefficient.
