The classrooms are 10 minutes
walk from the student dormitories. Bicycling is also possible. Car access to
the campus is restricted so the street between the dormitory and the classroom
is not a busy thoroughfare. The campus is a guarded compound and is considered
an extremely safe location. Hangzhou has a low crime rate and the campus region
is particularly safe. The local area of Hangzhou and Zhejiang Province is
considered generally safe. There are no restrictions on student travel with the
local area.

Safety in the research laboratory is a
serious matter that will be thoroughly discussed and prepared. Any potential laboratory will be vetted by
the Director to determine whether there is an unnecessary or unacceptable risk
to the student. The Director has
extensive contacts in the Chemistry department. At this time the main emphasis
will be on computational work which will have minimal hazard. If opportunities
for experimental work arise the Director will ensure that students work in
established and well-equipped groups who use standard methods common to labs in
Europe and the U.S.
